Explanation of Each Department

Internal Medicine

When you have a headache, stomachache, fever and fatigue, you will take an initial counseling of a doctor in internal medicine. Then, if necessary, you will be examined further in our various sections: respiratory, gastroenterology, hematology, circulation, neurology, endocrine and metabolism system (diabetes, thyroid), rheumatism, allergy.
In each of the above sections, specialists with various and notable backgrounds are available. So any type of medical treatment can be performed in our hospital. If your symptoms must be examined in other sections, no problem; we have an excellent section-to-section communication system.

Surgery
The surgery department has experienced and eminent doctors working in the various specialties such as digestive surgery (esophagus, stomach, duodenum, liver, colon), mammary gland (mastitis, breast cancer), respiratory surgery (lung) and anal surgery. We also expanded our installation of facilities, machinery and equipment for the examinations of upper and lower digestive organs and thoracoscopy. For patients with less serious conditions, with regard to digestive and respiratory organs, we principally use endoscopes for those operations, thus reducing the patient's length of stay.

Pediatrics
Babies' periodical medical examination after birth, vaccination and all kinds of diseases related to infants and children are treated. Please let the nurse know beforehand if you need any certificates various types of certificates of health examination including certificates needed for school entrance examinations or travel abroad. We take pride in taking care of your babies and children.

Obstetrics and Gynecology
Sanno Hospital tries to support more comfortable delivery needs, by introducing painless delivery with epidural anesthesia. In the case of Caesarean operations, an experienced pediatrician attends the operation to ensure safety. The number of deliveries is getting increased at Sanno Hospital and we now have more than 50 in a month. Four of us, full|time obstetricians, make teams and take care of all the deliveries. In the gynecological field, our philosophy maintains that the minimum medical treatment is better for patients. We are dealing with women's health control, he promote a longer life expectancy, which involves anti-aging methods with hormone substitution therapy after menopause. We also try to help women control menopausal disorders. Periodic cancer examinations as a preventive measure is conducted as well.

Orthopedics
The orthopedics department in Sanno Hospital has sufficient expreences in wide rage a@cases including. Injuries appendicular parts (hands, arms, legs, feet), the spine, joints, ligaments, nerve and blood vessel thelist goes on to Herniated disk of the cervical vertebrae and of the lumbar, tendovaginitis, fracture, ligament injury, rheumatism, lumbago and all sports injuries. Treatments are performed in cooperation with our Rehabilitation Center.

Otorhinolaryngology
Ear, oral and laryngological troubles are treated in this department. Dizziness, facial pararysis, otitis media and allergic rhinitis (polonaises) are included. In January, 2001, "Tokyo Voice Center of Sanno Hospital and International university of Health and Welfare" an epoch-making center dealing with diseases of the throat is opened. Tokyo Voice Center is located in the former Sanno Hospital building, now called Sanno Sattelige Hospital. The building has been reconstructed in order to house the special center. This kind of center is the first established in Japan, and high expectations have been laid upon it from Japan and abroad. Depending on the patient's symptoms, treatment is performed with full cooperation between the Voice Center and Sanno Hospital.

Dermatology
A full range of dermatological problems is treated such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, urticaria, pimples and, proriasis. We can accept all ages and minor to serious problems. The consultations of skin care and allergy tests are welcomed.

Urology
Urology department covers all diseases and troubles related to the liver, bladder, and prostate. Commonly treated diseases are renal calculus, urinary calculus, blood urine, dysuria, urine incontinentia, prostatomegaly, impotence, and venereal diseases. From the viewpoint of preventive medicine, we try to conduct cancer examinations to find the problem at a very early stage. In 2001, "The Center for Dyalisis "began at the Sanno Sattelite Hospital. The Center will cooperate with the "Shinjuku Higashi Clinic" (Dyalisis clinic) for their further advanced services.

Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologic department is excellent when it comes to operations and, in particular, refractive surgery. The experienced doctors' team is composed of Chief Kimiya Shimizu, M.D., of the Ophthalmology Department at Kitazato University, and Dr. Mari Komatsu, M.D., Director of Ophthalmology Department of Sanno Hospital and other distinguished colleagues. The team has contributed much to the advancement of ophthalmologic operations. As a result, their surgical techniques have become highly appreciated "standard" also conducted in Europe and in the U.S.A. Sanno Hospital has installed the best and the most advanced "Exima Laser" equipment, the latest machinery for the treatment of myapia, hyperopia and astigmatism. During this procedure, a short-length-wave laser is applied to the center of the cornea, and the laser cuts slightly into the cornea to make its curve normal. There are two ways to operate: the PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) and the LASIK (laser in situ keralomileusis). LASIK is the highest-grade operation method in the world, and only minimum pain remains after surgery. Accordingly, the recovery is very fast and smooth. This method is also applied to cases of light-nearsightedness.

What are the remarkable features of LASIK used in Sanno Hospital?
LASIK introduced in Sanno Hospital is that it correctly reads and calculates, by computer, the shape of the cornea, and then, corresponding to the detailed data, the laser is applied to the correct spot. So the most appropriate laser shot is made to the patient's eye.

Anesthesia
A certified anesthesiologist takes care of patients even before and after their operation. All operation rooms are administrated and organized by the department. At the forefront of other organizations, we are proud that we apply anesthesia to the operation of collecting eggs from the patient's body for the purpose of extracting their pain. This method is safe and comfortable for the patients, and the patients really appreciate the extra care.

Radiology
ln the radiological department, Sanno Hospital makes full use of the latest technology in medical equipment. In particular, we introduced the most advanced equipment available in the world, including MRI (Magnetic Resonance lmaging) with 1.5 Tesla, CT (Computed Tomography) with 5.5 mega, Scintillation Camera (nuclear medicine) and angiography. When the patient undergoes a radiological examination, the doctor of radiology without exception attends to the patient. The picture appears clearly through the highest-level imaging display, and even a very tiny affected area can be reflected on the picture. After the film is developed, several doctors examine the picture carefully, ensuring a correct diagnosis.

Rehabilitation Center

The Rehabilitation Center helps patients' recover from the movement-functional disorder caused by cerebral diseases (cerebral infarction, cerebral aneurysm,etc.) and injury. To make the appropriate treatment, skillful specialists are stationed in each section with the full support of International University of Health and Welfare. The members include occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, and they support the recovery training keeping in mind each patient's ability. The Center has wide and relaxing open spaces, and it faces a roof garden with various species of flowers, herbs and greenery. So the patients can apply themselves to rehabilitation under calm and comfortable surroundings.

Dentistry and Oral Surgery
The Dentistry Department consists of Dentistry, pedodontics, orthopedics, oral surgery, and implantation. Specialists in each field are stationed in their respective section. Our dentistry department deals with caries, periodontitis, the most common disorder, and also makes artificial teeth and conducts oral surgery. The dentists take time to counsel patients to discuss patients' expectations, needs, and appropriate procedures.
